West Bengal

A collaboration with our weavers to produce new textile means emphasising on social economics, morality as well as aesthetics.

Following the construction of fabric from the beginning, we witness extraordinary patterns as the operator controls each throw of the shuttle and continues to make fine adjustments while the cloth is woven. To produce distinctive patterns, using traditional means, the fabric goes through a hand driven method of twisting yarn, locally called ‘Nali Pakano’, followed by warping with the help of a horizontal drum known as ‘ Drumkora’, before finally it is woven on a pit loom, also known as ‘Matha Tant’.
